NHK: Maple Leafs Bodie making an impact for the club

Troy Bodie did not have to look at the numbers to be aware that he had a great night. That was quite obvious when Leiweke came in the locker room to congratulate him. Tim Leiweke, the president and chief executive officer of the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, told that he does not come in here often. And, when he does, you take it.
That match performance against Philadelphia Flyers earlier on Saturday was quite a culmination of attempts for Bodie, who was acting in his sixteenth straight match for Maple Leafs after he spent almost one month in minors.
The right wing player, who has tied the knot with Leiwekes daughter Francesa, played for more than fifteen minutes as he was substituting the injured David Clarkson on the third line of Toronto, and he made the most of that opportunity.
Randy Carlyle, the coach told that he is very noticeable. He has been strong on the forecheck, he is a strong hockey player. That is the way he is. Bodies signing in the summer was not hailed as a franchise castrating move and for great reason. The twenty nine year old had only 6 goals in 107 NHL matches for Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks.
Even to this day, Bodie is not a star for Leafs. But the team needs him to be a consistent contributor and he had shows positive signs for that. Bodie told that at times, the game is all about opportunities. Once you get the opportunities, you try to do something with this.

Spartan accommodation

This is not a Motel 6, but this is a far cry from deluxe hotels Sidney Crosby as well as his teammates are now accustomed to. The men’s hockey team of Canada would have magnificent views of Black Sea; still, their accommodations at the Sochi Olympic village are very basic. There would be 2 or 3 players in one room, sharing twin beds as well as bathrooms.

When they arrive at Sochi next week, there would no special treatment for the NHL stars. They would stay in dorm-style rooms like any other Canadian athletes. Women’s hockey player Gillian Apps stated that she could not see any reason why anyone must receive some special treatment. The rooms are very accommodating. It is great.

All of hundred and ten athletes of Canada in the village are experiencing what chef de mission Steve Podborski termed a very similar experience. Before the Canadian team got a guided tour of the village, Steve told that one of the things they found out in their exit interviews from earlier Games, and mainly out of Vancouver, is that the all the athletes wanted to be part of a team. They wanted to really feel not just his team but their team, all together. And this also includes hockey players.

Steven Stamkos, the Tampa Bay Lightning star player, is expecting to be recuperated from a broken leg in time to take part for Team Canada. He stated that he is really not worried about the close quarters, even though it has been some time since he has experienced dormitory living.
